The Sagittarius Full Blue Moon on May 31, 2026: Once in a Blue Moon, You Set Yourself Free

Every once in a while, the cosmos give us a moment that feels like a wink from the Universe.

On May 31, 2026, we experience a Full Blue Moon in the sign of Sagittarius — the second full moon in the month of May. The first full moon of May occurred on May 1, and now this second full moon peaks on May 31. Since having two full moons in a single calendar month does not happen often, it is called a Blue Moon, as in the saying "once in a blue moon".

Just in case you were wondering, no, the moon will not actually turn blue.

The phrase “once in a blue moon” refers to something rare. It is about timing, rarity, and the beautiful mismatch between our human calendar and the moon’s natural rhythm.

A Blue Moon is not astrologically important, neither is the fact that there are two full moons in a calendar month. It is more symbolic.

It whispers:

Once in a blue moon, the impossible becomes possible. Once in a blue moon, you achieve that one thing you thought you never would. Or better yet, once in a blue moon, the heart softens... giving you an opportunity to forgive what you swore you never could.

The Symbolism of This Full Blue Moon

Full moons are always moments of illumination. They bring things to the surface. They show us what has been hidden, avoided, denied, or buried under the noise of everyday life.

This Full Blue Moon asks us to look at one of the heaviest things the human heart can carry:

The person, moment, betrayal, version of yourself, or chapter you have not been able to forgive.

Not because what happened was okay.

Not because you have to pretend it did not hurt.

Not because forgiveness means giving someone access to you again.

But because carrying resentment, rage, grief, or bitterness for years becomes a weight your soul was never meant to drag through every new season of your life.

Forgiveness is the process of letting go of resentment and bitterness, which supports your emotional well-being, reduces your stress, helps create healthier relationships, improves your mental health, and gives you greater peace. Forgiveness has also been linked with potential health benefits, including reduced anxiety, depression, stress, pain, and blood pressure, along with improved sleep and overall well-being.

Don't believe me? There are actual studies on this - go google Johns Hopkins or Mayo Clinic effects of forgiveness.

So this is not just spiritual. This is nervous system work. This is heart work. This is body work. This is liberation work.

Forgiveness is usually not for the other person... it is the sacred decision to stop letting the past take up space in your body, your energy, your choices, your relationships, and your future.

Forgiving the “Unforgivable”

Let’s be honest.

Some things feel impossible to forgive.

The betrayal. The abandonment. The lies. The version of you who stayed too long. The parent who could not show up. The friend who disappeared. The partner who broke something sacred. The younger you who did not know better. The moment that changed everything.

Forgiveness does not mean you approve of what happened.

It does not mean you forget.

It does not mean reconciliation.

It does not mean bypassing your anger with a pretty affirmation and pretending you are healed because you lit a candle.

Real forgiveness asks for honesty.

Brutal honesty.

The kind where you sit with yourself and say:

Who have I not forgiven? What am I still replaying? What story am I still carrying? What pain has become part of my identity? Who am I still punishing in my mind, even though I am the one still suffering?

This Blue Moon invites you to look at the 'impossible' and ask:

What if I choose not to carry this anymore?

Not all at once. Not perfectly. Not performatively. But honestly.

Believing in the Impossible

The phrase “once in a blue moon” is often used for something rare, something unlikely, something we do not expect to happen often.

So, this moon becomes a beautiful symbolic doorway.

What is the thing you thought could never happen?

The dream you dismissed. The healing you gave up on. The relationship with yourself you thought was too far gone. The confidence you thought belonged to other people. The life you secretly want but keep talking yourself out of.

This Full Blue Moon asks:

What if the impossible is only impossible because you have been loyal to an old version of yourself?

Sometimes the “impossible” thing is not a massive external achievement.

Sometimes it is finally feeling safe in your own body.

Sometimes it is forgiving yourself.

Sometimes it is choosing peace instead of proving your pain.

Sometimes it is saying, “I am done making my future pay for what my past survived.”

This moon is an invitation to believe in the version of you that exists on the other side of the weight.

Simple Full Blue Moon Ritual for Forgiveness, Healing & Achieving the Impossible

This ritual is simple, honest, and deeply personal. You do not need anything fancy. Just a quiet space, a journal, and the willingness to tell yourself the truth.

You Will Need:

A candle

A journal or piece of paper

A pen

A bowl of water

Optional: a crystal, flower, or object that represents healing to you

Step 1: Create Sacred Space

Light your candle and take a few slow breaths to ground yourself.

Place one hand on your heart and one hand on your belly.

Say:

I am safe to be honest with myself I am safe to feel what I feel. I am safe to release what I am ready to release.

Allow your body to soften.

You do not have to force anything. Just arrive fully.

Step 2: Name the Weight

In your journal, write:

The person, situation, or version of myself I have not been able to forgive is…

Be honest.

Not 'spiritually correct'. Not polished. Not what you think you “should” say.

Tell the truth.

Then write:

What I am still carrying from this is…What this pain has cost me is…What I wish had been different is…

Let it all out.

This is not about judging yourself. This is about witnessing yourself.

Step 3: Separate Forgiveness from Permission

Write this sentence:

Forgiveness does not mean what happened was okay. Forgiveness means I am ready to stop letting this pain control my energy, my body, my future, and my peace.

Read it out loud.

Then write:

I do not have to carry this forever.

Step 4: Speak the Release

Hold your paper near your heart and say:

Under this Full Blue Moon, I release the belief that my pain has to stay heavy forever. I release the story that forgiveness means weakness. I release the burden of carrying what has already hurt me enough. I choose peace, not because they earned it, but because I deserve it. I choose freedom, not because it is easy, but because I am ready.

Take a deep breath and burn the paper. Allowing yourself to feel the weight releasing from your body and your energy field.

Step 5: Call in the Impossible

Now write:

The one thing I never thought I could do, become, heal, or receive is…

Then write:

If I believed this was possible, one small step I would take is…

Keep it simple.

It can be anything, like... Send the message. Make the appointment. Start the practice. Say the prayer. Create the plan. Rest. Let go. Begin again.

The impossible usually does not arrive all at once.

It begins with one honest choice.

Place this paper in the bowl of water.

Step 6: Close the Full Blue Moon Ritual

Dip your fingers into the bowl of water and touch your heart, forehead, or wrists.

Say:

I forgive at the pace my body feels safe. I heal without rushing. I release without denying. I believe in what is becoming possible for me. I am free to begin again.

Blow out your candle.

Pour the water outside, into a plant, or a place of your choosing - just do it with gratitude.

Journal Prompts for the Full Blue Moon

Use these prompts before or after the ritual: Or you may want to just do the ritual or focus on journaling. Freedom of choice is a lovely gift. There is no right or wrong here.

  1. Who or what have I been unable to forgive, and why?

  2. What part of me still feels attached to this pain?

  3. What would forgiveness give back to me?

  4. What boundary may still be needed, even if I choose forgiveness?

  5. What impossible dream, healing, or desire am I ready to believe in again?

  6. What is one small action I can take to prove to myself that I am no longer stuck?

  7. What does freedom feel like in my body?

Closing Reflection

This Full Blue Moon is not magic because it is rare.

It is magic because you are choosing to make it meaningful.

The moon is not here to do the work for you.

She is here to reflect what is ready to be seen.

And maybe what is ready to be seen is this:

You have carried enough.

You have replayed it enough.

You have punished yourself enough.

You have waited long enough to believe that healing is possible.

So, under this “once in a blue moon” sky, let yourself consider the impossible.

Maybe you can forgive. Maybe you can begin again. Maybe you can stop carrying the weight. Maybe you can become the version of you who is no longer defined by what happened.

Not because it was okay.

But because you deserve to be free.

Once in a blue moon, something shifts. Let it be you.
